From Prada to Lada
Article from MaltaStar.com.
While rumour has it that the PM uses a Prada cell-phone it is by now common knowledge that the extension of the power station will be using fuel of such a high quality as 'a state of the art' run down Lada!
As a Nationalist acquaintance just pointed out to me - this is a saga that will surely not go away.
People are still in two minds as to how to describe the state of play within the Nationalist administration.
Some call it a free fall. Others opt for the word meltdown. While the overwhelming majority seem to be in agreement that they are literally on the verge of imploding.
The kind of stampede certain Nationalists have embarked on is symptomatic of one thing....That they feel that the count down has already started. And that many are out to make a fast buck.
Regardless of whether they happen to be not so silent partners in ICT and software companies or luxury restaurants in prime sites. Apart from other money spinning enterprises that have even led many observers of the political scene to speculate that certain key figures might be seriously contemplating withdrawing from the political arena.
Once and for all. And for good.
A story I do not buy that easily given that we happen to be talking of 'political animals' who have it ingrained within them to keep on playing the political game till the end and to the hilt.
Many crimes have been committed by this administration but the power station saga is indeed a CRIME AGAINST NATURE since the environment and nature invariably go hand in hand.
The same way that the environment and public health do too.
What is reported to have happened in the power station extension - regardless of whether it may be just a perception or not - reminds me of the book with the same title, which not only stood out as a scalding indictment of the former Bush administration's dubious environment policy. But which also served as an impassioned, excorciating account of how Bush and big business plundered the environment and raked in the profits.
Robert F Kennedy, one of the world's most prominent environmental lawyers, charged the White House a few years ago with the crime of pursuing private profit and personal power at the expense of clean air, clean water and live wildlife, enriching the President's pals while lowering the quality of life for the rest of the American citizens.
One cannot but experience a strong feeling of deja vu; when discovering how Kennedy lifted the lid on an administration whose policies have looted American money, helped its most notorious polluters and deceived the public.
Kennedy shows how in a cabinet that boasted more CEOs than any in history, industry lobbyists wielded an unprecedented influence on policy, how the government had rolled back key environmental laws and suppressed reports on issues like global warming while covering up its true agenda with clever PR; how Bush preached individualism yet doled out lavish subsidies to the energy barons and how everyone's health and security world wide were sacrificied at the altar of profit.
To all those who might feel shocked at this saga of corporate corruption I am sure that many of Maltastar's on line readers will react by exclaiming : We know the feeling too!
